Government Rebates For Insulation

Upgrading your home insulation is one of the most cost-effective energy-saving upgrades you can make, and a great way to lower your utility costs year-round. When combined with federal tax credits, state rebates and local utility incentives, a typical attic insulation project can see your out-of-pocket cost come down by 50% or more.

The Foam Expert Group was previously equal to 10% of the cost of insulation materials and systems, with a lifetime limit of $500, but has been increased through 2032 to 30% of material costs, up to $1,200 annually. Insulation and air sealing materials and systems such as spray foam, loose fill, rolls, batts, blankets and mineral wool board qualify for the credit, as well as weather stripping, caulking and house wrap.

Government Rebates for Insulation: How to Save More

Homeowners can also claim local and state energy efficiency rebates, which typically cover up to 100% of project costs, for installing insulation in their homes. For example, all Massachusetts residents can save up to 75% on a home insulation upgrade through the Mass Save program, which offers income-based rebates for qualified homeowners.

To receive these instant rebates, homeowners must work with a PSE Recommended Energy Professional or another PSE Trade Ally contractor to have a home energy assessment performed. Then, the contractor will deduct the applicable rebate amount from the invoice, reducing the customer’s out-of-pocket cost. These rebates are subject to change.
